BRIDAL PARTY FASHIONS

• FLOWER GIRLS: When choosing the dress for your flower girl you should consider style and comfort. Have the style complement the wedding decor, theme and style of the bridesmaids' gowns.
• Typically the flower girls's (or ringbearer's) parents pay for their wedding attire; however, the bride and groom can certainly purchase the flower girl dress (or the ring bearer's suit) as a gift. Be sure to make your intentions clear regarding who will be responsible for the cost of the outfit. Prices for flower girl dresses start at about $80 and can run up to several hundred dollars.
• Although it is appropriate for your flower girl to wear a mini version of your bridal gown, keep in mind her dress should be age appropriate. A four-year-old wearing slinky spaghetti straps or a strapless dress would not be appropriate. As you shop for just the right dress be practical and remember that comfort is key. If you choose floor-length be sure the hem is at least two inches from the floor to avoid the possibility of tripping. Some of the more popular fabric choices include organza, satin, lace and velvet, or a combination of fabrics. Whichever you choose, be sure the fabric fits the season. Your flower girl will be wearing this outfit all day and into the evening so try not to pick an itchy fabric.
• Mother-of-the-bride: The perfect color and style that the mother of the bride dresses in can be a complex one. On the occasion of her child's wedding, every mother wants to look stylish, beautifully dressed, and perfectly coiffed. Obviously she wants to look her best, but she should not wear an outfit that takes all the attention away from the special couple. The mother of the bride can choose a simple style that compements the bridesmaids' color theme.
• Mother-of-the-bride – more tips: A few rules apply: mothers' gowns should never be longer than the bride's or attendants' gowns. They should not be more formal or more lavishly decorated than the bride's gown. The bride's mother chooses her gown first, then lets the groom's mother know the color so she will not choose the same shade.
