Wedding flowers are not only beautiful, but are considered as highly desirable to convey emotions and appreciation. Wedding flowers are part of your special day, but can take a large portion of the wedding budget if not planned in advance.

Flowers add beauty, color, fragrance and elegance to the style and theme of your event. Flowers have become a large part of the wedding with the bride and her attendants carrying bouquets of flowers. Flowers are one of the most important elements of your wedding day. Flowers are used generally in bouquets for brides and bridesmaids, pomanders, corsages, hair accessories, thank you bouquets, and cake decorations. Flowers are also an indispensable part of decor in church and venue displays, pew ends and table centerpieces.

• Before you visit your florist, collect lots of pictures from magazines that you like. After you’ve assembled about 20 pictures. Lay them all out and decide upon a common theme between all the pictures that attracted you. Was it the color? The fact that they all had a Garden theme? Or, maybe it was the simplicity of the arrangements. Perhaps it was the sentimental value of the flowers. When you do this it will help narrow down the choices. You and your florist can then decide upon the best way to proceed. Submitted by: Carmen Thomas, Desert Rose Florist, Cave Creek, AZ. 480-575-8909. www.desertroseflorist.com.

• Be sure you have set a date for the wedding prior to meeting with a florist. The time of year will greatly affect price and availability of the flowers you choose. You will need to give your florist at least three to six months to plan, depending on the size of your wedding. My flowers were in season and locally available. This helped a lot. • Flowers live forever. When choosing your flowers and arrangements for your special day, remember that they will live forever in the wedding photos. Also, it is not uncommon to use your ceremony flowers at the reception as well. After the ceremony, your florist will move all arrangements over to the reception area to double as centerpieces, pillar arrangements, cake table, etc. Submitted by: Jared Sutter, CJ Floral Design, Glendale, AZ. 602-978-0168. www.cjfloraldesign.com.

• Flowers and candles are easy to acquire and can dramatically improve the romance of any location with minimal effort. Fresh cut flowers, tea lights, sprinkles of rose petals or shear material draped over windows will bring extra warmth to any room. • Instead of having each bridesmaid's bouquet look the same, choose a particular flower for each bridesmaid that best suits their personality. Then have a bouquet made using that flower as the focal point. Use each of the different types of flowers that have been selected for your bridesmaids in your own bouquet to complete the circle. Take it a step further and match each groomsmen’s boutonnière to a bridesmaids bouquet.

• Make sure your florist includes at least a little bit of ivy in your bouquet. This lush green climbing vine symbolizes fidelity and is traditionally used in bridal bouquets for that special symbolism.

• Don't overlook inexpensive blooms. A good florist can design marvelous arrangements out of inexpensive flowers. Chrysanthemums and carnations are inexpensive, and when arranged in abundance, they create striking bouquets.
